Darn Woolacombians!
9th April 2008
Rob Bunney has sent in a few snaps from the recent Youth National Stillwater Championships that were held at Bath University. Alongside this he's also divulged what you may just be reading in this weeks North Devon Journal. It's all below, the gallery link following the story!

" On Sunday 30.3.08 the Youth Stillwater Surf Lifesaving championships were held in Bath university 50m Pool.
Last year Saunton were third with just under half the points of winners Woolacombe and Saunton were delighted after a fantastic effort from the youngsters hauled them up to second place only 78 points behind especially as Tom Howe, national standard swimmer recruited by Woolacombe only 2 weeks ago accounted for 46 of those in individual events alone.
Heats were swum on submitted times so medal placings within age bands are hard to confirm yet but of course numerous medals were won.

Points were:
  • Woolacombe 774
  • Saunton 696
  • St Ives 407
  • Perranporth 393
  • Mumbles 271
  • Blyth 261
  • Pen Y Bont 223

This leaves the local rivals on 2 wins apiece in the National still water events this year with Saunton taking out the Seniors and Masters and Woolacombe the Nippers and Juniors.
Roll on the Beach and Open water events.
"

The Gallery not only includes pics sent in by Mr. Bunney himself, but also for the first time the team shot is also presented in Saunton Sands Wallpaper format, with 6 screen resolutions supported! Now you can get in the team spirit everytime you turn your computer on!

To view the Gallery of the events doings, then give your left mouse button a good clicking right... here!

If there are any previous team shots (Or any large image you have seen on the Saunton Sands website) that you would like converted into a Saunton Sands Wallpaper, or if you would like to see more wallpapers like this when new galleries are uploaded to the website in the future, please get in contact via E-Mail (Address at the top of the page as always). Champions Holding On!
17th March 2008
Bob Bunney has E-Mailed in with a short report of what went down recently in Bath for the Seniors & Masters National Stillwater Championships which you may just find in this weeks North Devon Journal. You can read it below... although if you can't be bothered with the reading and prefer looking at pictures, then you can do that as well as Bob's sent in some pictures from the event too. The link's at the end!

" On Saturday and Sunday 15-16th March the GB surf lifesaving Still waters were held at Bath University 50m pool.

Saunton Masters held onto the title with 1449 points to Portreath's 588 in second place and Perranporth's third place with 386.

A very young Saunton Senior team captained by James Dallyn and coached by Dave Worms was boosted by the arrival on Sunday of 4 youngsters who had competed for Barnstaple swimming club in the Devon interclub swimming relays at Plymouth on Saturday as well as some masters doubling up on events and swimming in the open category. They knew they had competed well but were astounded when the points totals were read out at the end jumping from seventh place last year to run out winners with 316 points to second place Portreath's 225, Perranporth's 197 and Crawley town's 172.

Points towards the super club are all divided by the number of age categories in the event with of course the seniors only having one category.

Mark Ressel came along on Saturday but was injured when skiing after Richard Folland went into him on a snow board and so couldn't compete.

Saunton members cannot recall if we have won the still water seniors before, Nick Skinner thinks so but if it was it was at least 5 years ago, I have emailed John Martin and he is going to get back to me with the answer, we couldn't find out from the trophy as last years winners Pen Y Bont hadn't brought the trophy back yet.
"

See the gallery from the event by clicking here! Well done folks!

Choices eh? If you don't have Microsoft Excel at all (Or nothing that can open files like this) then please let me know through the usual E-Mail address and i'll be sure to make a note of it for the future as a fair few Excel files make it to the website!

The entry form can also be downloaded from either the Nippers page, the articles page or the competition calendar page which also lists all the current competitions scheduled for 2008. If you haven't already been there, then make sure you write down all those important nipper competition dates on your 2008 calendars at home if you get one for christmas! If you don't get a calendar for christmas... use some post-it notes or something! Make sure you get your entries in on time!

Remember to put a little aside from christmas aswell!

Saunton Sands Rif-Raffle
27th November 2007
Jan Reid has E-Mailled in with a request for anyone who may have donations to give:

"Hi
I am looking for donations to the Christmas raffle. If anyone has a prize that they wish to donate please let me know and I will try to collect it or give it to a committee member.
Also Caroline Bricknell is to make up some hampers so any donations for those would be gratefully received.

Alternatively you can drop any raffle prize in to my school Yeo Valley Primary which is on the Greenlanes roundabout. Please make sure it is marked Saunton sands or it will get put into the school raffle.

Cheers, Jan Reid
"

Better start training now!
18th November 2007
Bryan has E-Mailled in with many of you guy's important times for 2008 including dates for Nippers (Updated since previous date), Juniors, Seniors & Masters Devon & National Stillwaters, and Devon & National Beach/Sea Championships dates *phew!*

To see them all, click here to go to the competition calendar - Or click on 'Events' at the top of any page on the website, and then click 'Dates for your calendar!' - Simple eh?

Also concerning the dates for the Masters & Juniors in Portreath, Jan Reid has e-mailled in to say that she's been able to find a campsite that has static caravans & bungalows (Though it will also take campers and tents, and maybe campers with tents aswell!). To this end Jan recommends that everyone books early for this event! If you mention that you're from Saunton Sands they will also try to put everyone together.

The website for the holiday park is at tehidy.co.uk, or alternatively you can E-Mail through: E-Mail address held in an image for security reasons.
