Masters Saunton Results from Gyllyngvase
15th August 2010
Bob Bunney has sent in an article he has written regarding the recent Masters SLS Championships from Falmouth (Which is also set to appear in the North Devon Journal). The below images can be enlarged by clicking on them!

"The GB surf life saving championships kicked off on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th of August with the Masters (30 and over ages) event at Gyllingvase beach in Falmouth.

The almost totally flat conditions were in contrast to the head high heavy surf of last year's event held in Newquay but this variety is what adds to the enjoyment and challenge of the event.

North Devon clubs again excelled with Saunton pipping last years winners Woolacombe to top place with Hayle third and Portreath fourth. Croyde entering for the first time in many years came an excellent ninth of the 20 clubs taking part.

Ex North Devon competitor Jess Hannafin (nee Lewin) now competing for Branksome Chine having moved to Bournemouth, was the event's outstanding female competitor winning the Ocean Women event by a huge margin.

The Junior and Nipper events follow later this week at the same beach with the Senior event at Newquay in September.

Rhys Morrison stromed his way into the final of the beach sprints and came away with the National title for under 13 years.
